Harper brings image improvement tour to Toronto

(How the GAY & Married newspaper keeps stabbing conservatives in the back on a daily basis...)

Toronto — Embattled Conservative Leader Stephen Harper took a break from parliamentary follies to open Toronto's International Dragon Boat Race Festival.
-what no insults yet? what is taking so long?

He cracked jokes about a quick rescue if he were to dive into Lake Ontario to escape the stifling heat.
-what no insults yet? what is taking so long?

But he wasn't laughing about his party's embarrassing defeat Thursday on the NDP-inspired budget bill.
-finally an insult...why was this defeat embarrasing? because the liberals are cheating weasels?

Mr. Harper accused the Liberals, Bloc Quebecois and NDP of using procedural trickery to pass the bill, which the Tories had said they would defeat to bring down the government and force an election.
-well did they or not? you are the third-party non-aligned journalist, you tell the public the truth?

He deflected questions from reporters about whether his leadership had been damaged by the episode.
-why should he answer your biased questions when you can't answer questions you pose to your own readers by your own hand?

He says it's the Liberals who have an image problem after such backhanded deal-making.
-finally some truth...

"Canadians are going to be concerned to see the government having a deal with the socialists and the separatists," he said.
"I don't think that's the kind of coalition the public voted for."

-especially since the MSM have been ragging on conservatives for any involvement with the Bloc and now the liberals and NDP do it for convenience purposes

The budget bill was whipped through Parliament late Thursday night after Liberal strategists calculated enough Conservative MPs had left for the weekend to allow it to pass. The Liberals, Bloc and NDP colluded to approve a rarely-used measure to cap debate at one hour and then adopted the bill by a five-vote margin.
-yes and where is the moral outrage or condemnation here from the media that is supposed to put Canadians first?

NDP Leader Jack Layton, still aglow from Thursday's victory, also helped to open the boat rate festival on Centre Island in Toronto harbour.
-what victory, from a bunch of cheaters? you the Canadian Press are supporting this?

Mr. Layton shrugged off Mr. Harper's accusations of trickery, saying MPs are expected to be in their seats to vote. He said he's had nothing but positive feedback about the move.
-Jackal the man of ethics and inside socialistic maneouvers, we will see if you get what you want on election day Jackal

"Everybody I've talked to is very happy that the budget is through."
Mr. Layton welcomed hundreds who had gathered to open the festival with several lines of Cantonese and was rewarded with a hearty round of applause.

-really? I know lots of people that are not happy about this

Mr. Harper took his nine-year-old son Ben to the amusement park on the island following his public appearance, the second stop on his so-called image improvement tour.
-what you arn't attacking his son too? Who called it his so-called image improvement tour anyways besides you commies in the media?

The two then had plans to spend the rest of the afternoon at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
-good choice

The Conservative leader will remain in the Toronto area Sunday, but said he will be spending time with his son rather than attend Toronto's world-renowned gay pride parade.
-world renown? really? since when do most people give a shit about gay parades?

An example of extreme media bias and hatred towards conservatives in Canada.

Paul Martin, EINSTEIN, PISACCO AT PEARLY GATES

Paul Martin, Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso have all died. Due to a glitch in the mundane/celestial time-space continuum, all three arrive at the Pearly Gates more or less simultaneously, even though their deaths have taken place decades apart. The first to present himself to Saint Peter is Einstein. Saint Peter questions him. "You look like Einstein, but you have NO idea the lengths certain people will go to, to sneak into Heaven under false pretenses. Can you prove who you really are?" Einstein ponders for a few seconds and asks, "Could I have a blackboard and some chalk?" Saint Peter complies with a snap of his fingers. The blackboard and chalk instantly appear. Einstein proceeds to describe with arcane mathematics and symbols his special theory of relativity. Saint Peter is suitably impressed. "You really *are* Einstein! Welcome to heaven!"

The next to arrive is Picasso. Once again Saint Peter asks for his credentials. Picasso doesn't hesitate. "Mind if I use that blackboard and chalk?" Saint Peter says, "Go ahead."Picasso erases Einstein's scribbles and proceeds to sketch out a truly stunning mural. Bulls, satyrs, nude women: he captures their essences with but a few strokes of the chalk. Saint Peter claps. "Surely you are the great artist you claim to be! Come on in!"

The last to arrive is Paul Martin. Saint Peter scratches his head. "Einstein and Picasso both managed to prove their identity. How can you prove yours?"Paul looks bewildered, "Here is a present for you Saint Peter he says while handing over a thick brown paper envelope." Saint Peter looks at him and says "Arn't you that SOB that passed SSM against the will of God?" "Yes," replied Paul Martin and he continued, "but don't the gays need somebody to love them too Saint Peter?" "Yes they do Paul, but you SOB who the hell are you to try and pay me a bribe to get into heaven?" Saint Peter bellowed. "What are you going to do to me Saint Peter?" Paul began to cry now... "Off with you Paul, you have been condemned to purgatory..." hissed Saint Peter. "Where is that Saint Peter, I don't wanna suffer.." Paul barely bawls out. "Purgatory for you Paul will be a life as the gay assistant to Scott Brison"...screached Saint Peter. At this point a smile began to come across Paul Martin's face as he began to think this was not really a punishment at all, he thought that he would like this actually as he had admired Scott for many years now... But then as he turned to walk away to his fate, Paul could hear Saint Peter say in the background "There is one thing I forgot to tell you Paul, your new name is going to be... Paula" ....laughed Saint Peter as he disappeared into the light!

Goodbye Shapiro: you are incompetent!

Ethics commissioner says he learned lesson from Judy Sgro investigation

John Ward
Canadian Press
Friday, June 24, 2005

OTTAWA -- Ethics Commissioner Bernard Shapiro, the target of some opposition MPs who want him fired, says he learned lessons from his first investigation and will apply them from now on.
Shapiro said his inquiry into the actions of Judy Sgro, the former immigration minister, was his first and it was a learning experience. He testified at the Commons ethics committee as MPs on the committee clashed over how they could question him. Opposition MPs tried to zero in on the Sgro inquiry, but were deflected by the chairman, who kept questions focused on general process, not specifics.
-sorry not good enough; this is like a judge making mistakes... not acceptable, he goes!!

"This is not a court of appeal," said chairman David Tilson.
New Democrat MP Ed Broadbent has said he wants to bring a motion of non-confidence in Shapiro before the committee, but that hasn't been done yet.
-but he just admitted that he made mistakes...

The MPs decided in camera that they would consider such a motion next week, if the Commons is still sitting.
Shapiro told the committee he will do some things differently in future.
-like start looking for annother job..

For instance, he said, he found it's important to sit down with all the principals in an investigation right at the start and discuss the issues.
-why did they hire this guy? whose ass did he have his head up?

"It cuts away the brushwood," he said.
He also said it's important to sort out what complaints he can deal with and which ones should be directed to other agencies.
Shapiro sent Sgro a letter on the investigation before issuing his report. She cited the letter as exoneration, although the final report did chide her for the actions of her staff.
-typical media denials

Shapiro said he sent letters to people who were subject to critical comment in the report and asked them to comment on matters of fact. He said he doesn't know if he would do that again.
-why not?

The Sgro investigation took seven months and Shapiro said he could probably shorten that in future cases. "You learn things," he said. He said it took time to get his operation running, hire a staff, arrange for offices.
-not an excuse in my opinion, we had other people doing this

He also complained about what he called a culture particular to the capital: "There seems to be a culture around in Ottawa that makes admitting a mistake a mistake instead of a learning experience."
-actually liberals make many mistakes and get away with them but a conservative never does

Shapiro also said he'll look into the actions of Tim Murphy, chief of staff to the prime minister, in the controversy over the case of secret tapes involving Tory MP Gurmant Grewal and will "likely" look at the prime minister as well.
-yeah and I'm staring at my navel right now too... so what?

"I expect . . . that I will find it appropriate to widen the examination to include either the prime minister and-or anyone else who seems to have a material relationship to the examination in question."
-you will find it appropriate to keep your job no matter what like all other liberals

He said Murphy won't be the formal target of the inquiry, but will be looked at. "He's so central to the issue that I would intend to include him."
-I expect that you two will be spot on for lunch eh chap??

"It's not good enough," said Conservative MP Tom Lukiwski. "I want a definitive statement. One of the problems we have with the ethics commissioner is that he seems, much as in the manner of the prime minister, to dither on a lot of issues.
-yes finally some truth, somebody that says it like it is...
Frankly I couldn't read any more of the shyte in that article so I leave it up to you to go to the link above and read the rest..

Canada.com webpoll not going so well?

7.92 %Evidence Harper's Tories aren't really ready for the big time.

4.35 %Good news, the money is badly needed.

Seems that the liberal loving Aspers might not like this result...
If you get a chance check out the poll and vote, I did and I'm sure you know how I voted.

Liberals Cheat to win once again!!

Liberals win surprise budget vote
MPs vote to delay summer break,
which will allow vote on same-sex marriage
CANADIAN PRESS

OTTAWA - Paul Martin's Commons corps dusted off a rarely used procedural tactic just before midnight Thursday to bamboozle furious Conservatives and pass contentious Liberal-NDP budget amendments.
-HA HA HA! so funny, look at the criminals cheat to win!! Rarely used procedural tactic... LOL! You f*cking b%st*rds, have the liberals ever played fair?

The Conservatives could only sputter and fume after their unofficial partners in the Bloc Quebecois deserted them to join the Liberals and the NDP to cut off debate on the budget and move up a vote on same-sex marriage.
-So knee slapping funny how the dark side has to cheat to win, I'm laughing my guts out right now as I type this...

The realization of what had occurred only dawned on the Tories as they gazed around the shuttle buses that normally ferry MPs back to their offices and realized there wasn't a Liberal in sight.
-The weasels cheated... which is something that conservatives don't like doing nor are they used to playing dirty pool like liberals

Every available Liberal MP was cloistered in the Commons lobby waiting to spring into a vote to cut off debate. The Liberals, the Bloc and New Democrats made extraordinary use of a rule allowing for cutting off debate on the budget if they agreed the Conservatives were being obstructionist.
-gee 50% or more of the public just lost their voice for no good reason.

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper poured scorn on the alliance.
-yeah just annother example of the angry guy...

"When push comes to shove the Liberals will make any deal with anybody," Harper said after he was forced to rush back for a midnight vote. "And it doesn't matter whether it's with the socialists or with the separatists or any bunch of crooks they can find."
-Stephen you forgot to mention the devil... oops they already made that deal didn't they?

Though the Bloc stood with the Tories in the midnight budget ballotting, the Liberals still mustered five more votes than the Tory-Bloc alignment; several Conservative MPs were absent.
The Liberals were taking a monumental gamble. A loss on the vote would force the prime minister to dissolve Parliament and call a summer election.

-did the liberals know something that we don't?

But Liberal strategists were confident they had caught the Conservatives unawares and decided to risk their government for a decisive victory.
-who did the liberals buy now?

"I hope they can count," Liberal MP Shawn Murphy said of Liberal strategists as MPs milled around before the vote.
-who can count? the sell-outs with the parachutes?

The Tories, who had boldly predicted they could topple the Liberal government on the budget vote, were suddenly complaining they had members missing.
-well they would have won if the liberals didn't cheat but damn they shoulda expected this... school yard bullies 101

A few Conservatives were missing from their seats in an earlier vote Thursday evening. More could been seen racing back up Parliament Hill when news broke of the impending budget showdown.
-who were the missing MP's, you mean that you don't know?

They reacted with unfiltered rage.
-can't say I blame them, this is a new low for the liberals which keep digging deeper and deeper

Conservative deputy leader Peter MacKay described his foes as a ménage a trois between separatists, socialists and power-hungry Liberals.
-funny that the Bloc would support the liberals on this vote? very strange indeed.

Liberals claims of making the minority Parliament work was "all just one big, fat stinking lie" and then went further, comparing the Liberals to one of Hollywood's most heinous homicidal cannibals.
"We have to start thinking that Hannibal Lecter is running the government and they'll do anything they have to do to win."
Liberals could barely contain their glee in response.

-the idea of parliament is to discuss legislation and consider the will of the people, which the liberals had no interest in doing here

"Its not surprising that Hannibal Lecter should spring to mind for Mr. MacKay given the growing number of Conservatives who believe the party should soon eat its own leader," said Scott Reid, the prime minister's spokesman.
-what are you saying? most conservatives support Harper, I think that Martin is gone if he doesn't win annother majority next time

The Liberals handily won the earlier vote to extend the sitting of this session of Parliament after they promised to bring their controversial same-sex legislation to a vote.
-big deal, they had to do this and their was no consequences to the vote, conservatives wanted the extension

It was the first such extension since the free-trade debate raged in the dog days of 1988.
-yeah and the liberals were against that one btw

The Bloc Quebecois threw its weight behind the extension vote after extracting a promise from the Liberals that same-sex legislation will be dealt with before the session ends.
-why is the Bloc in a rush to deal with this? The liberals want this passed because they believe it will help them win seats in Quebec... why would the Bloc want to help that?

MPs are expected to adopt the same-sex bill by a healthy margin.
It passed second reading last month in a 163-138 vote and is already the law in every jurisdiction except Prince Edward Island, Alberta, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

-so now it will be forced on to those regions by virtue of the liberals cheating

Both the Bloc and the NDP support it, overwhelming the Tories and three dozen or so Liberal backbenchers who oppose it.
-why do 3 dozen liberals oppose it... no answer?

The Liberals carefully gauged the absences in the Commons before pulling their surprise move Thursday, knowing where their opposition stood and mindful of their close shave last month when they survived a Tory-Bloc non-confidence move by only one vote.
The Tories and the Bloc have said all along they would vote against the amendment, which would add $4.6 billion in social spending to the budget.

-looks like some conservative MP's have some splaining to do...

Earlier, several Tories said privately they don't want an election, don't expect one, and have no desire to topple the government right now.
-who are they? name them. Nice job of spin though Red Star, because you know and I know that the liberals would bleed in an election right now

It would be novel political strategy for the Tories to trigger an election now - 12 points behind the Liberals in the latest Decima poll released Thursday, and threatening to send the country to the polls in August for the first time since 1953.
-why don't the liberals dissolve the house and call an election then if they are confident that 12 points ahead (where except for Toronto????), means majority government?

Even an election-hungry Bloc - which is poised to sweep Quebec - seems more anxious to hit cottage country than the campaign trail.
-depends, polls can always change... better to get the bird in the hand than two in the bush

"For the moment I don't intend to order the (election) machine kick-started again," Gauthier said.
-so are you insiders in the Bloc now too at the STAR??

"Personally, I'd prefer to go for my vacation soon and maybe the fall would be a better moment for a general election.
"But I am always ready."

-ha ha, there you go..

It was the Bloc's co-operation that made an extension possible. The Commons had been scheduled to start its three-month summer break Thursday.
-yeah nice to see that most of the politicians in this country are socialists if one happens to like that of course

Initially lukewarm to the idea, the Bloc changed its tune after an exchange of letters between Gauthier and Liberal House leader Tony Valeri.
-how much money?

Valeri promised "that C-38 would be dealt with at all stages before the House would adjourn."
-how can he do that?

That was good enough for the Bloc - which had said it wanted a written guarantee that C-38 would come to a vote if there were an extension.
-nobody understands why Quebec wants gay-marriage? If you know then please explain it for me.

Things a conservative would like to see happen in Canada

Brian Walsh

Today is a good day to indulge myself.. to dream and hope upon a star. Well I didn't do that much in past but the wishes of childhood seem so sweet to me now in such a cynical and swirling world. If I could have my wishes granted what would I want to see happen in this country called Canada?

Well for a starter I don't think much of the media in this country so let's start there:

- I wish for a lot smaller CBC that is designed to serve the areas of Canada that commercial enterprises cannot or will not serve. A CBC that is given a mandate to serve Canadians and not elected politicians.
- I wish for an agency that is non-partisan and non-biased be created that Canadians can complain too and for which major broadcasters themselves 'pay for' to ensure balance and fairness in media reporting and broadcasting. If the MSM does not observe the fair recommendations of such an agency then the government can act according to the will of the people to squelch offending organizations and businesses that do not observe the ideals of balance and fairness.
- I wish that the MSM industry in Canada be opened up to a far greater level of foreign competition than we currently have and that an organization like News Corp., the parent Corp of Fox Broadcasting, be allowed to operate in Canada to balance the overwhelming left-wing bias of existing companies.

Now I can make some wishes in regards governments:

- I wish for an elected senate which happens every time there is a federal election with the ballot in each province marked with the corresponding number of candidates that each province would be allowed to have.
- I would abolish the 'job for life' that senators currently enjoy and make senators elected for fixed terms as in the US. Current senators would be bought our of their current seats and replaced with elected senators asap.
- I would make the senate a place of research, reflection and lastly a place of responsibility. Senators would produce research on issues of importance of the day for the benefit of the HOC to aid decisions in the lower house. The reflection would come as the senate would have some power to resolve major conflict or problems in the HOC (not sure of the mechanism yet but I'll try to get to that later). Lastly the responsibility comes from being elected and answerable to the public, annother way for citizens to have a say in how their country is run.

On the subject of political party's I wish for:

- No more patronage appointments. All jobs are filled via hiring committees or professionals that review candidates: period.
- Politicians have to sign a contract upon being elected that requires certain behaviour from them: no lying knowingly, responsibility to tell the truth, reveal corruption when known, and convey your loyalty first of all to the public which pays your salary.

I'll continue this list, check back later..

How should CPC HQ handle the media?

Brian Walsh

For sometime now I have been talking to other conservatives in my city and across Canada re: the MSM and how it treats conservatives. I was one of the people that started the idea that it was the liberal friendly media that won the election for the liberals last time. I came to the conclusion that our biggest obstacle to power was not the liberals or even a recalcitrant public but the media and its owners and controllers themselves.

The Media in Canada is spoiled... like any spoiled child it is used to getting what it wants when it wants it. For example, the media wants to tell political parties what policies they should adopt, what their purpose and objectives are and even determine if they should exist or not. The media pretends that it speaks for the public or some higher authority ( the media owners and the super-rich or powerful in this country?), but it isn't God that is for sure. The media is not supposed to dictate to the public what they should believe nor attempt to indoctrinate these people in the views of liberalism and secular socialism.

Thus, here are 10 points that I have put together to get Conservatives talking and thinking about the role of the MSM in Canada, its duties, obligations, rights, and wrongs as the case may be. Also, the suggested responses, actions or agendas that conservatives should provide when dealing with the media.

For all good thinking conservatives to consider:

1. We don't take orders from the media
2. We defer to the public only
3. We have a right to think the way we want to, this is a democracy that supports free speech and ideals
4. We can consider advice of the media when we WANT TO, otherwise we do not have to
5. We treat the media the way they treat us
6. We are the news, the media is the medium. Without us they don't have a story, it is quite simple. They do not have the right to manufacture news or controversy that simply does not exist.
7. We have the responsibility to run the country, the media has the responsibility to inform the country.
8. We have complete power over the media due to the power invested in us by the public, but we must wield such power responsibly
9. We have the right to abscond the media when it is in the country's greater interests, but only then and not necessarily for our own interests (when not too re: Paul Martin's Gomery speech).
10. We have an obligation to ensure balance and fairness in media output for the benefit of the public and the maintenance of the democratic system which we all pay for and expect rightfully to enjoy the benefits thereof.

In time I hope to make this a good essay and add more points as it warrants such effort.

Canada stands tall among G8 countries

Canadian Press
June 21, 2005

OTTAWA -- With the next G8 summit scheduled July 6-8 in Perthshire, Scotland, Statistics Canada is reminding people where Canada stands among member countries.
-gee is this like the UN rankings where our liberal buddy Kofi ensures Canada of a high ranking?

The agency says that although Canada has the smallest population of all G8 countries, it is one of the leaders in terms of economic expansion, employment and the education level of its workers.
-who says this? Statistics Canada? am I supposed to believe them, me sitting here as a conservative?

On the downside, Canada's labour productivity has been substantially below those of France, Japan and the United States.
-not surprised at this, lack of business investment, lack of usage of technology and generally poor quality of management in Canada

But the agency says Canada is keeping up with, and in many cases surpassing France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
-most of that list is not difficult to surpass, excepting the UK and the US. I'm guessing that this is liberal speak for we are keeping up with those two countries

And despite Canada's size, it had the third highest gross domestic product per capita in 2004 at about $31,000 US, third only to the United Kingdom at $31,100 and the United States at $39,800.
-mostly due to our favourable trading status with the US eg. auto pact. But I am surprised that our GDP is only 78% of that of the US.

And as Prime Minister Paul Martin is fond of pointing out, Canada led the G8 in economic growth between 2000 and 2004.
-well we had too though, coming out of a recession

Statistics Canada also says that:
By 2003, Canada had the third highest employment rate at 73.3 per cent for the core working-age population 25 to 64. It followed only the United Kingdom at 74.2 per cent and Japan at 73.9 per cent.
-hard to believe since some areas of this country have quite high unemployment

In 2003, Canadian women had the highest employment rate of all G8 countries.
-one stat I do believe, since Canada has beat up on white men under the age of 50 to accomodate the aspirations of the new feminist class

In 2002, 43 per cent of Canada's working-age population aged 25 to 64 had a college diploma or university degree, the highest rate in the G8.
-this I also believe, but what about the quality of education that most of these people received? Then there is the issue of the 40,000 foreign students in Canada (40,000 locals without seats in Colleges and Universities btw...), many of which will stay and be handed PLUM JOBS here!

In 2003, Canada was near the middle of the pack with its jobless rate of 7.6 per cent.
-how can we have high participation rates for workers and high unemployment rates?

Staff errors were inadvertent, says Sgro

Here is hi-lites of the story with my comments following:

Although Shapiro conceded that Sgro's staff bore most of the responsibility for conflict of interest issues, "this does not absolve [Sgro] of major responsibility."

Balaican was given a temporary resident permit three days before the June 28 election. The permit allowed the 25-year-old to remain in Canada for two more years and apply for permanent resident status.

As minister, Sgro had the power to grant temporary visas on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.

-clear abuse of power by Sgro and for which Shapiro is AFRAID to bluntly state here.
-If Shapiro does not put more lead in his pencil he should be fired.
-regarding Sgro, no reason to put her back in cabinet as she has been caught and only a partisan LPC supporter would argue otherwise.
-the residents (are citizens anymore in Canada??), of York-West (which is close to where I live), should vote out Sgro in the next election.

Pope Benedict XVI Chastises Europe in Book

By NICOLE WINFIELD
The Associated Press
Tuesday, June 21, 2005; 7:53 AM

ROME -- Pope Benedict XVI rails against Europe in his first book published since becoming pope, chastising a culture that he says excludes God from life and allows innocent lives _ the unborn _ to be taken from God through legalized abortion.
-abortion one of the most contentious issues in first world society - must answer the obvious question, when does one become a person?

"The Europe of Benedict: In the crisis of cultures" was written when the pope was still Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the Vatican's guardian of doctrine, and serves as a strong indication of issues that will be priorities in his pontificate.
-I expect that due to his past position, we will begin to see a lot more spiritual direction for everyday life from this pope

The book covers many of the themes Benedict has already focused on in his two months in office: the role of Christianity in Europe and the need to respect life from conception to its natural death. It also explores faith and what it means to be Christian.
-Christianity in Europe is in peril except for Eastern Europe which is embracing it, a place to build on indeed.

It's an easy, 149-page read, written in Italian in 1992, 1997 and earlier this year, according to the Cantagalli publishers, which was releasing the book along with the Vatican's publishing office, Libreria Editrice Vaticana, at a ceremony Tuesday.

Parts of the book were made available to The Associated Press on Monday.
Ratzinger takes as a starting point the decision of European Union leaders to exclude a reference to Europe's Christian roots from the preamble of the proposed EU constitution, whose future remains uncertain following its rejection by French and Dutch voters in recent referendums.
-the ultimate irony is that the atheistic socialistic EC may never fully develop.

The Vatican had campaigned to have the reference included, part of its attempts to stem what it sees as a continent of increasingly empty churches that is often hostile to religion.
-state sanctioned atheism as anthesis to religion

"Europe has developed a culture which, in a way never before known to humanity, excludes God from public conscience, either by being denied or by judging his existence to be uncertain and thus belonging to subjective choices, something irrelevant for public life," Benedict writes.
-agreed, because they believe that socialism and atheism/humanism will fulfill all of humanity's needs

He dismisses arguments that inclusion of the reference would have offended Jews and Muslims, saying they are more offended by Europe's attempt to deny a historic fact.
-not aware that it offended them before? even if it did, there is no reason why other faiths cannot be mentioned, seems to be an excuse to remove any faith based system from mention

"It's not the mention of God that offends the followers of other religious, but precisely the attempt to build a human community absolutely without God," he writes.
-agreed

He says Europe needs more people like St. Benedict of Norcia, the fifth and sixth century monk who is a patron saint of Europe. The Benedictine order that followed his teachings became the main guardian of learning and literature in Western Europe during the dark centuries that followed the fall of the Roman Empire.
-the church was the centre of knowledge and culture but it was good for all when this became freely available in a secular environment too

The "Benedict" in the title of the book apparently refers to the saint.
Looking at current culture in Europe, Ratzinger acknowledges it would be easy to resign oneself to the fact that abortion is a legal right in much of Europe. But he concludes that there is no such thing as a "little homicide" and that when man loses the respect for life, "inevitably he ends by losing his own identity."
-Europe has become a culture in love with living yet ignoring what life' really is, when it begins and the obligation of all of us to preserve it

He criticizes parents who think their rights to freedom trump the rights of the unborn child, saying "they become blind to the right to life of another, of the youngest and weakest who don't have a voice."
-All the same, an unwanted child is a cursed child and a poor life can be worse than waiting for a better life later

"Accepting that the rights of the weakest can be violated, means that you accept also that the right of force prevails over the force of rights," he writes.
-it is all the struggle of the physical vs the metaphysical in the end, one is far greater than the other

The pope, a world-renowned theologian who has written dozens of books, recently turned over his copyrights to the Vatican publishing house, an undertaking the publisher said was "mountainous."
-sounds like this is the start of many books to come

By comparison, Pope John Paul II's literary output was relatively modest: He wrote five books during his 26-year pontificate.
-didn't know that pope's in general were voluminous writers, although in the past unable to travel, it makes sense that they would publish a lot of directive material

Cantagalli officials said there were no immediate plans to translate Benedict's book into other languages.
-I would expect translation into several languages

Editorial: Celebration of Pride

Today marks the beginning of Pride Week in Toronto and there is reason for all residents of the city to celebrate and feel proud.
-really, what reasons?? Most people that I know avoid it like the plague.

From a strictly economic point of view, the week-long festival pumps tens of millions into the local economy at hotels, restaurants and bars, clothing stores and souvenir shops.
-uh so does any event in the city in any given year. So I'm supposed to give gays whatever they want because of this?

It is a celebration that combines the raucous and colourful, including parades and dance parties, with the solemn and sombre, notably an AIDS vigil. It also includes a sub-cultural explosion of art, dance, theatre, music and entertainment.
-yeah real family like entertainment, nothing mainstream here, so how can everybody be proud of this?

The giant Pride parade Sunday along Yonge St. is the culmination of a week's worth of events.
-thankfully most of us never have to witness any of them.

It attracts participants and spectators from across the city, the province, the country, the continent and from around the world.
-next they will be telling us that this is the biggest event this city hosts every year.

In scope and scale, it is truly a world-class event in a city that aspires to be so.
-it's world class because some foreigners come here? Luckily, for the gay community, our city hall falls all over their demands, needs and wants.

It has the wild and exotic juxtaposed with the humble and domestic — where sequins and feathers mingle with baby carriers, penny loafers and sunscreen.
-debauchery by any other name I would say.

Happy Pride Week.
-hoping that it is over fast.

Now back to SSM, are the liberals still planning to ram it down our throats??

American militia coming to Canada

Global National
June 17, 2005

In April, Global National told you about that the Minutemen militia group - an Arizona-based civilian organization dedicated to "protecting the border" from the entry of illegal Mexican immigrants - would begin patrolling the Canada-U.S. border in search of illegal immigrants. Today, the Minutemen are announcing that they are expanding into Windsor, Ontario, and will begin recruiting Canadians in July to support their cause. Will this mean armed militia patrolling duty-free shops along the Canada-U.S. border?
-I sure as hell hope so!! Thank God for the USA!! I'll join up as soon as possible... too many immigrants now and any illegals I can stop is all gravy to me.

My conservative comments for today..

Israel apologizes to U.S. over China arms sale

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel publicly apologized to the United States on Sunday over arms exports to China that have drawn criticism from Washington and strained U.S.-Israeli security ties.

"It is impossible to hide the crisis between Israel and the United States with regard to the security industries. We are doing everything possible to put it behind us," Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said on Israel Radio.

The dispute centers on Israel's sale of Harpy attack drones and other advanced technology to China that the Pentagon fears could tilt the balance of power and make it difficult to defend Taiwan, which Beijing deems a renegade province.

"If things were done that were not acceptable to the Americans then we are sorry but these things were done with the utmost innocence," Shalom said in comments that coincided with a visit by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"The United States is our biggest ally and none of the things that were done were done with the intention of harming U.S. interests," Shalom added.
- true allies, apologize when they make mistakes or do not consider the interests or needs of others.

Human embryonic stem cells have the potential to develop into eggs and sperm in the laboratory
19-Jun-2005

Copenhagen, Denmark: Scientists in the UK have proved that human embryonic stem cells can develop in the laboratory into the early forms of cells that eventually become eggs or sperm. Their work opens up the possibility that eggs and sperm could be grown from stem cells and used for assisted reproduction, therapeutic cloning and the creation of more stem cells for further research and for the improved treatments for patients suffering from a range of diseases.

Behrouz Aflatoonian will tell the 21st annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology today (Monday 20 June) that the research also solves the practical and ethical problems associated with obtaining human samples of primordial germ cells (PGCs), which are the ancestral cells that eventually form eggs and sperm (gametes).

"Investigating the mechanisms of human primordial germ cell and gamete development is important for understanding the causes of infertility and the potential harmful effects of environmental chemicals on reproductive development," he will say. "But at present it is very difficult to obtain human samples of these cells as they only occur early in development."

Mr Aflatoonian, who is a PhD student in Professor Harry Moore's laboratory at the Centre for Stem Cell Biology, University of Sheffield, UK, said that studies with mice embryonic stem cells had shown that they were capable of differentiating into PGCs and subsequently eggs and sperm, so he set out to see if the same applied to human embryonic stem cells (HESCs).
-genetic engineering and test-tube babies, as well as cloning of humans is just around the corner... science outpaces societies weak morals.

Possible Bush court nominees pose quandary
A conservative anchor vs. an ethnic first
By Peter Baker

President Bush's advisers are focusing their search for a new Supreme Court justice on a trio of candidates who could present the president with a choice that would help shape his legacy -- pick a reliable conservative to anchor the court for decades or go for history by naming the first Hispanic chief justice at the risk of alienating his base.

While the cancer-stricken Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist has not publicly signaled his decision, many in the White House and around Washington expect him to announce his retirement at the end of the court's current term next week, opening the nation's top judicial post for the first time in 19 years and setting up a potentially savage nomination battle.

White House officials have prepared for the prospect by culling long lists of possible candidates, poring through old cases and weighing a variety of factors from judicial philosophy to age. Bush and his inner circle have had tightly held deliberations and no one can say for sure whom he might pick for chief justice, but outside advisers to the White House believe the main candidates are federal appeals Judges John G. Roberts and J. Michael Luttig and possibly Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales.
-I would go with Robert's Jr., as supreme court judge due to his young age and predictable views on contentious issues that can affect conservatives. Gonzales already has a prominent high-level job and moving him would not accomplish much and could even make matters worse than they are for conservatives.

Canadian Conservatives need to boycott certain products originating from pro-liberal suppliers.
Brian Walsh

Everyone remember... you can make a difference. Did you know that most large corporations, the profit reported each year is as little as a few percent of sales? Often the gross profit on sales is less than 50% of sales. Thus, a reduction in sales of 5 or 10% can mean the difference between profit or loss for a year for a large corporation. That means that the pension funds, banks, share-holders, analysts, and competitors will be breathing down their backs. This is real pressure, pressure even the hardest, toughest, biggest most powerful people in this country WILL FEEL! Furthermore, the extreme left has been doing this for years... it is your right to do this and YOUR OBLIGATION.

Instead of supporting large corporations that are pro-liberal, help local business by purchasing from them or using their services. Let's send a message that liberalism is not the dictatorship of Canada that most Canadians support nor that is wanted. The most democratic thing you can do is to act as an informed consumer and use your hard-won earnings to support the kind of Canada that we all know in our hearts WORKS for us!!

Calgary under seige!!
Brian Walsh

Unless you have been out of the country lately... you have been hearing about the massive flooding in Calgary and area. A long spell of rain rarely interrupted by sun has led to flooding unseen in modern times.

But this is conservative country, and Paul Martin has been entertaining EC officials in Southern Ontario for some reason- too busy to make it to Calgary to inspect the massive damage wrought by nature. That Albertan's just have one more reason to dislike him can not be more obvious.

Mr. Martin, calling himself a Prime Minister for Canada, obviously does not have all of Canada on his list of concerns. That he convorts with foreign leaders while locals suffer with nary a concern or offer of help from Ottawa should not be forgiven. I am asking for the people of Edmonton to vote out his Deputy PM, Ann McLellan as retribution for this slight.

The government’s counsel, Sylvain Lussier, pleads at Gomery wrap-up.
Brian Walsh

Sylvain, I don't know you and I can understand that you are in a difficult position, having to support two weasels like Jean and Paul. But we all have jobs to do and hopefully do them well we must... that you have a chance to plead on an emotional level for these two weasels shows the power of our system - a system that tries to a fault to not make mistakes.

But Sylvain; we can play this either way they (Jean and Paul), want to go here in terms of a final decision and the laying of blame... they were directly involved but did it for the right reasons (gag me here...), or they were not involved but were completely incompetent (for not being on top of things...), and both are poor stewarts by not taking ANY responsibility for what happened, even though the brass' is supposed to be held accountable in the real world for titanic mistakes.

Which is it? The first or the latter, we don't have until the end of time to play this out you know.
