JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel publicly apologized to the United States on Sunday over arms exports to China that have drawn criticism from Washington and strained U.S.-Israeli security ties.

"It is impossible to hide the crisis between Israel and the United States with regard to the security industries. We are doing everything possible to put it behind us," Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said on Israel Radio.

The dispute centers on Israel's sale of Harpy attack drones and other advanced technology to China that the Pentagon fears could tilt the balance of power and make it difficult to defend Taiwan, which Beijing deems a renegade province.

"If things were done that were not acceptable to the Americans then we are sorry but these things were done with the utmost innocence," Shalom said in comments that coincided with a visit by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"The United States is our biggest ally and none of the things that were done were done with the intention of harming U.S. interests," Shalom added.
- true allies, apologize when they make mistakes or do not consider the interests or needs of others.

Human embryonic stem cells have the potential to develop into eggs and sperm in the laboratory

Copenhagen, Denmark: Scientists in the UK have proved that human embryonic stem cells can develop in the laboratory into the early forms of cells that eventually become eggs or sperm. Their work opens up the possibility that eggs and sperm could be grown from stem cells and used for assisted reproduction, therapeutic cloning and the creation of more stem cells for further research and for the improved treatments for patients suffering from a range of diseases.

Behrouz Aflatoonian will tell the 21st annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology today (Monday 20 June) that the research also solves the practical and ethical problems associated with obtaining human samples of primordial germ cells (PGCs), which are the ancestral cells that eventually form eggs and sperm (gametes).

"Investigating the mechanisms of human primordial germ cell and gamete development is important for understanding the causes of infertility and the potential harmful effects of environmental chemicals on reproductive development," he will say. "But at present it is very difficult to obtain human samples of these cells as they only occur early in development."

Mr Aflatoonian, who is a PhD student in Professor Harry Moore's laboratory at the Centre for Stem Cell Biology, University of Sheffield, UK, said that studies with mice embryonic stem cells had shown that they were capable of differentiating into PGCs and subsequently eggs and sperm, so he set out to see if the same applied to human embryonic stem cells (HESCs).
-genetic engineering and test-tube babies, as well as cloning of humans is just around the corner... science outpaces societies weak morals.

Possible Bush court nominees pose quandary
A conservative anchor vs. an ethnic first

President Bush's advisers are focusing their search for a new Supreme Court justice on a trio of candidates who could present the president with a choice that would help shape his legacy -- pick a reliable conservative to anchor the court for decades or go for history by naming the first Hispanic chief justice at the risk of alienating his base.

While the cancer-stricken Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist has not publicly signaled his decision, many in the White House and around Washington expect him to announce his retirement at the end of the court's current term next week, opening the nation's top judicial post for the first time in 19 years and setting up a potentially savage nomination battle.

White House officials have prepared for the prospect by culling long lists of possible candidates, poring through old cases and weighing a variety of factors from judicial philosophy to age. Bush and his inner circle have had tightly held deliberations and no one can say for sure whom he might pick for chief justice, but outside advisers to the White House believe the main candidates are federal appeals Judges John G. Roberts and J. Michael Luttig and possibly Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales.
-I would go with Robert's Jr., as supreme court judge due to his young age and predictable views on contentious issues that can affect conservatives. Gonzales already has a prominent high-level job and moving him would not accomplish much and could even make matters worse than they are for conservatives.

Canadian Conservatives need to boycott certain products originating from pro-liberal suppliers.

Everyone remember... you can make a difference. Did you know that most large corporations, the profit reported each year is as little as a few percent of sales? Often the gross profit on sales is less than 50% of sales. Thus, a reduction in sales of 5 or 10% can mean the difference between profit or loss for a year for a large corporation. That means that the pension funds, banks, share-holders, analysts, and competitors will be breathing down their backs. This is real pressure, pressure even the hardest, toughest, biggest most powerful people in this country WILL FEEL! Furthermore, the extreme left has been doing this for years... it is your right to do this and YOUR OBLIGATION.

Instead of supporting large corporations that are pro-liberal, help local business by purchasing from them or using their services. Let's send a message that liberalism is not the dictatorship of Canada that most Canadians support nor that is wanted. The most democratic thing you can do is to act as an informed consumer and use your hard-won earnings to support the kind of Canada that we all know in our hearts WORKS for us!!

Calgary under seige!!
Brian Walsh

Unless you have been out of the country lately... you have been hearing about the massive flooding in Calgary and area. A long spell of rain rarely interrupted by sun has led to flooding unseen in modern times.

But this is conservative country, and Paul Martin has been entertaining EC officials in Southern Ontario for some reason- too busy to make it to Calgary to inspect the massive damage wrought by nature. That Albertan's just have one more reason to dislike him can not be more obvious.

Mr. Martin, calling himself a Prime Minister for Canada, obviously does not have all of Canada on his list of concerns. That he convorts with foreign leaders while locals suffer with nary a concern or offer of help from Ottawa should not be forgiven. I am asking for the people of Edmonton to vote out his Deputy PM, Ann McLellan as retribution for this slight.

The government’s counsel, Sylvain Lussier, pleads at Gomery wrap-up.

Sylvain, I don't know you and I can understand that you are in a difficult position, having to support two weasels like Jean and Paul. But we all have jobs to do and hopefully do them well we must... that you have a chance to plead on an emotional level for these two weasels shows the power of our system - a system that tries to a fault to not make mistakes.

But Sylvain; we can play this either way they (Jean and Paul), want to go here in terms of a final decision and the laying of blame... they were directly involved but did it for the right reasons (gag me here...), or they were not involved but were completely incompetent (for not being on top of things...), and both are poor stewarts by not taking ANY responsibility for what happened, even though the brass' is supposed to be held accountable in the real world for titanic mistakes.

Which is it? The first or the latter, we don't have until the end of time to play this out you know.
